Period cartridge interfaces connect a C64 or VIC-20 to PET-style parallel disk drives, printers, modems, and other IEEE-488 equipment.

These are original period interfaces to find used or reconstruct from archives, not current products. Match the cartridge to the exact computer and verify its ROM. The original C64 software occupies part of the $C000 area and disables serial IEC; Andre Fachat's separate modified C64 KERNAL can retain both buses, but it is not part of the cartridge.

Adds LocalTalk networking to an Apple ImageWriter II or ImageWriter LQ printer.

JCM's current page offered fully assembled and board-only choices on 2026-07-24. A DIY build needs correctly selected jumpers, a programmed EEPROM and NVSRAM, suitable board clearance, and several vintage chips. The project recommends installing the original-style grounding wire.
