For this compatible system (exact system): This is the complete motherboard for the 1088XEL compatible system, not an upgrade for an original Atari motherboard. It requires original Atari VLSI chips and an advanced four-layer-board assembly. The maker warns that soldering, assembly, and troubleshooting proficiency are essential and that a DIY board may not work on first power-up.

The maker publishes schematics, a BOM, production Gerbers, firmware, and PCB source files. The page points to The Brewing Academy for boards and systems, but current assembled stock was not checked in this pass.

For this compatible system (exact system): The SDriveXEL variant was designed for a 3.5-inch drive bay and takes both power and data from the 1088XEL SIO Aux connector. It was described as functionally identical to the original SDrive and c0nsumer version, including their limitations, but its former assembled source and exact build files are no longer verified.

Lotharek exposed a login-or-register-to-buy path for SD Drive Mini on 2026-07-27, and Retro Lemon also listed it with pricing. It plugs directly into SIO, uses a FAT32 microSD card and SDRIVE.ATR, and provides two buttons plus LEDs for selecting four drive slots. The separate open SDrive-Simple-II build still requires PCB assembly, ATmega328P programming, and an internal SIO connection. Its documented firmware supports cards up to 32 GB and ATR and XEX files, but not CAR, ROM, ATX, XFD, or CAS files, and it has no control for swapping disks in a multi-disk title. The former SDriveXEL assembled source and exact public build package remain unavailable.

Adds an internal CompactFlash hard drive to the 1088XEL through its MPBI expansion interface.

For this compatible system (exact system): Plugs into the 1088XEL MPBI and requires the dedicated 1088XEL Ultimate 1MB BIOS. Choose the original layout for a normal installation or ebiguy's electrically equivalent low-profile layout when a Rapidus accelerator occupies the CPU socket area.

Both variants have public fabrication material, and the Rapidus board adds KiCad source. Use only the specified Texas Instruments 74F-series logic. The interface needs flashjazzcat's special 1088XEL Ultimate 1MB BIOS, replacing the original SIDE PBI and loader. Keep the IDE cable under 10 inches when practical. The maker does not guarantee every CompactFlash card and reports the best results with genuine SanDisk cards rated at 30 MB/s or less.
