AvailableChecked Jul 30, 2026Final Cartridge III+ and 101%by Riska B.V.; modern versions by C64iSTANBUL and Daniel Mantione

Current and DIY versions of the C64 and C128 utility cartridge with fast loading, freezer, monitor, BASIC extensions, and desktop software.

Daniel Mantione currently offers the assembled Final Cartridge III 101% with a case through his project page and SellMyRetro. It arrives without firmware, so the buyer must flash a compatible image before use; version 2 of the 101% firmware and the C64 flasher are available from the maker. The separate C64iSTANBUL III+ project offers an orderable through-hole PCB, bill of materials, and 64 KB or 256 KB EPROM images, but it requires assembly and an EPROM programmer. PCBWay labels that shared hardware project CC BY-SA 3.0. The original and derivative firmware remains copyrighted and is not presented as freely licensed.

Build itChecked Jul 29, 2026ROMulan PET RAMulatorby Gavin Andrews

Open PET repair board replacing 32 KB of system RAM and selectable ROMs while adding built-in diagnostics.

The assembled Tindie board has been out of stock since 2025-08-04, but GPL-2.0 design files remain public. The maker pages repeatedly label the $0000-$7FFF replacement as 32MB; that address range is 32 KB, and independent technical coverage also identifies 32 KB, so this catalog records the functional capacity rather than the apparent unit typo.

Find usedChecked Jul 27, 2026SuperKernal 36-in-1by SuperKernal project

Replaces a C64 or SX-64 KERNAL ROM with 36 selectable ROM or program slots, file browsing, firmware updates, and optional WLAN and FTP access.

No current official retailer or reproducible fabrication package was verified. A July 2026 hobby report says units had reappeared on Kleinanzeigen, so treat SuperKernal as used-market hardware and verify that the module, WLAN board, headers, firmware, and documentation are included. Supply only ROM images you are licensed to use.

DiscontinuedChecked Jul 29, 2026UltiMemby Jim Brain and Marko Makela

Adds banked programmable flash and configurable RAM for storing and launching VIC-20 software.

The official project page preserves GPL-licensed menu and programming software plus detailed operation notes, but its RETRO Innovations product link is no longer a verified order path and no complete open hardware fabrication package was confirmed. Search for a used cartridge or choose a current UltiMem-compatible device such as VIC-MIDI.

AvailableChecked Jul 29, 2026VIC-20 Configurable RAM and ROM Cartridgesby Jaystonian, Retro Lemon, and community designers

Provides switch-selectable VIC-20 memory layouts with current assembled 35 KB and 37 KB cartridges plus an open 32 KB design.

Jaystonian showed eight HyperExpander SMD cartridges in stock at USD 29.99 on 2026-07-29. Retro Lemon exposed a GBP 20 product page without an out-of-stock marker. The open 32 KB project remains buildable. The guide's old fixed 24 KB eBay listing is retained only as an archive because its current order path was not verified.
