DiscontinuedChecked Jul 27, 20266502 Plus/4 CPU and RAM Moduleby Lotharek

Replaces the CPU in Commodore 264-series computers and can add 512 KB of Hannes-compatible expanded memory.

Lotharek marks the module discontinued. CPU-only use requires correct pin-1 orientation and a compatible socket or safe desoldering. Enabling the 512 KB expansion is invasive: remove the original DRAM and connect CAS to pin 15 on an eight-chip, 1-bit layout or pin 16 on a two-chip, 4-bit layout. Confirm the exact motherboard, CPU package, memory layout, and software's Hannes banking support before buying or installing a used module.

AvailableChecked Jul 28, 2026A501 Reduxby Lotharek

Adds 512 KB of trapdoor RAM and a real-time clock to an Amiga 500 on a compact newly made board.

The product page exposed a login-or-register-to-buy path on 2026-07-27 but supplies only the Amiga 500 purpose, 512 KB capacity, RTC function, and photographs. Human visual review confirms that it plugs into the trapdoor expansion. The RTC chip, backup-cell design, clock setup, memory mapping, motherboard and Agnus limits, and Amiga 500 Plus behavior remain unpublished, so the catalog retains only the exact Amiga 500 relationship.

AvailableChecked Jul 27, 2026BackBit Proby BackBit

Uses one microSD cartridge and interchangeable adapters to load software and provide selected storage, cartridge, memory, and diagnostic functions on many vintage computers.

The current store listed the assembled BackBit Pro for $129 on 2026-07-27 with one assembled adapter choice included. A microSD card is not included. Additional adapters are sold separately and require through-hole soldering. Firmware updates use the microSD card. An original C64 Assy 326298 needs the documented reset fix, and the SX-64 needs the straight C64/128 adapter.

Sold outChecked Jul 29, 2026GGLABS GRAM/1D and GRAM/4Dby GGLABS

Provides 1 MB or 4 MB of geoRAM-compatible cartridge memory for the Commodore 64 and 128.

GGLABS marks both technical projects released, but the current GRAM/4D Tindie listing says the seller is taking a break and no current GRAM/1D order path was verified. The published pages are useful technical documentation but do not expose a complete fabrication package. GeoRAM-aware software is required. GEOS 2.0r can use at most 2 MB; the full 4 MB needs patched GEOS 2.0r+, GEOS MP3, Wheels, or another compatible program.

Build itChecked Jul 24, 2026GW4301A 2 MB geoRAMby Garrett's Workshop

Open low-power 2 MB geoRAM-compatible expansion cartridge for the Commodore 64.

The assembled Tindie cartridge was out of stock on 2026-07-24 and had been sold out since June 10, 2024. The open design remains buildable. This is geoRAM memory, not an REU: software must explicitly support geoRAM. Most C64 programs use neither expansion-memory type, and GEOS needs an added geoRAM driver on its boot disk.

Build itChecked Jul 27, 2026GW4406A Macintosh Classic RAM Cardby Garrett's Workshop

Open low-profile card that adds 3 MB to a Macintosh Classic using two modern DRAM chips.

The assembled Tindie card remained out of stock on 2026-07-27 and had been sold out since August 13, 2025. The schematics and board layouts remain available for commercial and noncommercial use.

Build itChecked Jul 24, 2026Macintosh Classic Reloaded RAM Expansion Boardby Kai Robinson and Branchus

Open replacement RAM expansion board for an original or Reloaded Macintosh Classic logic board.

The public repository supplies Gerbers, BOM, and pick-and-place data under a noncommercial Creative Commons license. The Classic BBU limits total memory to 4 MB; larger SIMMs do not raise that limit. Builders must source 256x4 SOJ RAM, SIMM sockets, and the listed parts.

AvailableChecked Jul 29, 2026PenUltimate+ VIC-20 Cartridge Familyby Tynemouth Software and TFW8B

Combines configurable VIC-20 RAM, a large built-in software library, diagnostics, fast loading, and optional SD2IEC storage.

TFW8B listed the PenUltimate+3dcr as shipping on 2026-07-29. The older PenUltimate+, +2, and microSD-based +3 are end-of-life variants. Product-page option text mixes retired and current generations, so confirm that an order is for the +3dcr and whether any optional media are included.

AvailableChecked Jul 27, 2026RAD Expansion Unitby Frenetic

Uses a Raspberry Pi cartridge to emulate up to 16 MB of REU memory or up to 4 MB of GeoRAM-compatible memory on a C64 or C128.

Retrobit listed five assembled cartridge boards with cases at PLN 93.50 on 2026-07-27. A Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W and microSD card are not included. The upstream project describes RAD as a playground for new features and documents machine-dependent timing and power limitations.

AvailableChecked Jul 27, 2026REU Grandeby RETRO Innovations and Adrian Gonzalez

Adds a switch-selectable 256 KB to 16 MB DMA RAM Expansion Unit compatible with Commodore 1700, 1750, and 1764 software.

RETRO Innovations exposed an Add to Cart path at $75 on 2026-07-27. A dated 2026-04-29 notice on the product page says red enclosures were temporarily unavailable and orders could take two to three weeks to ship, so confirm the current enclosure and fulfillment state when ordering.

AvailableChecked Jul 29, 2026Shareware Plus GeoRAM 512Kby Shareware Plus

Adds 512 KB of bank-switched geoRAM-compatible cartridge memory to a Commodore 64 or 128.

The Shareware Plus page was updated on 2026-01-01 and says the cartridge is in stock by email order. Protovision also maintains a current product listing, but its extracted page does not expose a stock or checkout control. This is geoRAM memory, not an REU; software must explicitly support the geoRAM interface.

DiscontinuedChecked Jul 29, 2026UltiMemby Jim Brain and Marko Makela

Adds banked programmable flash and configurable RAM for storing and launching VIC-20 software.

The official project page preserves GPL-licensed menu and programming software plus detailed operation notes, but its RETRO Innovations product link is no longer a verified order path and no complete open hardware fabrication package was confirmed. Search for a used cartridge or choose a current UltiMem-compatible device such as VIC-MIDI.

AvailableChecked Jul 29, 2026VIC-20 Configurable RAM and ROM Cartridgesby Jaystonian, Retro Lemon, and community designers

Provides switch-selectable VIC-20 memory layouts with current assembled 35 KB and 37 KB cartridges plus an open 32 KB design.

Jaystonian showed eight HyperExpander SMD cartridges in stock at USD 29.99 on 2026-07-29. Retro Lemon exposed a GBP 20 product page without an out-of-stock marker. The open 32 KB project remains buildable. The guide's old fixed 24 KB eBay listing is retained only as an archive because its current order path was not verified.
