Macintosh external DB-25 SCSI

Open hardware SCSI emulator with SD-backed storage, optional Wi-Fi networking, and host-side management tools.

For this platform (bus/interface): The external BlueSCSI v2 DB-25 form factor connects to a compatible Macintosh external SCSI port. Internal Desktop boards instead require a 50-pin SCSI connection, appropriate mounting, termination, and power.

Current seller checks on 2026-07-27 found a $39 internal 50-pin Pico 2 W kit, a $49 assembled external DB-25 model, a $49 PowerBook model, and a $59 assembled Ultra Narrow 50-pin model at authorized seller ToTs RETRO. JCM also carried assembled Ultra hardware and model-specific Macintosh adapters. Prices, stock, included media, and support differ by seller. Ultra models require Berg or Molex power and cannot run from SCSI termination power. The initial Ultra hardware release is not yet open hardware, although its firmware remains GPL; the project says hardware licensing will open later.

For this platform (bus/interface): The vendor names Macintosh IIcx, IIci, IIvx, IIvi, Quadra 650 and 700, and Power Macintosh 7x00 systems. Install the male and female connectors in the marked orientation; the board will not work if reversed. SJ1 is normally bridged to supply SCSI TERMPWR.

Both kit and assembled configurations had a live Add to Cart control on 2026-07-24. A BlueSCSI device is not included.

JCM showed 34 units in stock on 2026-07-24. Connector orientation matters: align the PowerBook connector's marked missing pin, install the Centronics connector with its wider side toward DB-25, and expect the internal 50-pin female socket to be unusually tight.

For this platform (bus/interface): The maker says it works with most 68K and PowerPC Macs whose external DB-25 SCSI port has sufficient physical clearance. It was designed mainly for test benches; check termination, TERMPWR, mechanical support, and exposed-board safety for the exact setup.

The store page explicitly said Out of Stock on 2026-07-24, but the maker repository includes assembly instructions and Gerbers for noncommercial DIY fabrication.

For this platform (bus/interface): The v5.5 board has a male DB-25 SCSI connector for direct attachment to a compatible Macintosh external SCSI port. Its active termination cannot be disabled, so it must be the final device. Supply USB power if the host does not provide termination power on pin 25.

Upstream describes SCSI2SD V5 and V6 as permanently retired. SamplerZone nevertheless exposed an Add to Cart path for a cased v5.5 at $129.95 on 2026-07-27, including configured microSD media and optional HD50 or Centronics-50 adapters. Treat v5.1 as a used-market mechanism upgrade and confirm reseller fulfillment for v5.5. The documentation hub lists v4.8.4 from 2019 as the latest firmware for both versions. V5.5 has fixed termination and must be last on its chain; hosts without DB-25 termination power need USB power.

For this platform (bus/interface): The PowerMonster with BakMonolith variant connects directly to an external DB-25 SCSI port and supports bus or external DC power. That bundle was out of stock when checked.

The standalone PowerMonster, AztecMonster, and SusanoMonster pages exposed current Add to cart controls on 2026-07-24. The external PowerMonster with BakMonolith kit was out of stock. Mac OS installations need suitable third-party formatting software. Hot swapping works only when the host operating system supports removable media and may require explicit unmount and mount operations.

For this platform (bus/interface): Pico Slim and TinySCSI connect directly to a Macintosh external DB-25 SCSI port. Pico Slim termination is permanently enabled, so it must be the final device; supply USB power when the SCSI chain does not provide termination power.

Rabbit Hole Computing offered current Compact RP2040, Blaster, and Wide variants on 2026-07-24. A 2026-07-27 follow-up found its mostly assembled $25 Pico Slim V1.3 PCB kit sold out, while SamplerZone exposed an Add to Cart path for a $79.95 assembled and cased Pico Slim with configured microSD media. Rabbit Hole's direct Pico2 Slim and Laptop Blaster pages were also sold out. TinySCSI was archived in January 2025, but its V1.0 and V2.0 KiCad files remain available for personal builds. A project discussion documents Wi-Fi DaynaPORT operation on a Pico Slim under System 7.5.5 with the DaynaPORT SCSI-port driver, but does not establish a minimum System version or equivalent networking support for every family variant. Connector, termination, power, speed, and initiator support vary by hardware.
