Lotharek marks the module discontinued. CPU-only use requires correct pin-1 orientation and a compatible socket or safe desoldering. Enabling the 512 KB expansion is invasive: remove the original DRAM and connect CAS to pin 15 on an eight-chip, 1-bit layout or pin 16 on a two-chip, 4-bit layout. Confirm the exact motherboard, CPU package, memory layout, and software's Hannes banking support before buying or installing a used module.

The five-pin cable and adapter carry composite video and two audio connectors; those connectors do not create an independent stereo source in a stock mono computer. The eight-pin S-Video branch requires a host that supplies separate luma and chroma. Its stereo option requires a compatible second audio source on the designated extra pin. Its 18-way keyboard FFC is difficult to duplicate safely, so the documentation recommends manual keyboard testing for casual use rather than inserting thick pin headers that may damage the socket. The cartridge or ROM and every loopback must be installed with power removed.

Rob Clarke's current download directory offered Diag264 0.97 on 2026-07-30. The maker also offers a programmed EPROM at media and postage cost by email. The software is CC BY-NC-ND 4.0: unmodified personal distribution with attribution is allowed, but modification and commercial resale are prohibited. The maker warns that some third-party marketplace copies were unauthorized or modified. Loopback hardware may be resold when the attribution conditions are met.

The 264-series module exposed a login-or-register-to-buy path on 2026-07-27, while the separate C64 version is discontinued. Human review says the module plugs into the original socket, but the seller does not establish that every supported motherboard is socketed or document the original MOS part, board revisions, orientation, removal, or clearance. Treat it as a plug-in replacement only after confirming a compatible socket and orientation. A used C64 module needs the same checks.

For this system (stated family): The maker extends the adapter method to other 264-family computers that use a 1531 Datassette. The C116 is a 264-series model, but the README does not name it individually; verify its exact cassette connector and pinout before building the cable.

The repository provides the KiCad board, schematic, footprint, and documentation files and invites builders to fabricate the open hardware. PCBWay currently offers the 26.92 by 26.03 mm V2 design as a 1.6 mm, two-layer bare PCB and labels that shared project CC BY-SA 3.0. No connector, Mini-DIN lead, enclosure, Tapuino electronics, buffering, isolation, fusing, or current limiting is included or documented. Review the manufacturing files and wiring before ordering and connect hardware only with power off.

For this system (exact model): The maker explicitly designed the board for the C116's original 48-pin TED socket as well as the C16. Installation is solderless, but the TED must be extracted and reinstalled carefully and the machine reset after changing memory modes.

Poly.play listed the board as out of stock on 2026-07-30. The earlier direct AmiBay sales thread is closed. Use PCB revision 1.4 or later: the maker reported an error in revision 1.2, refunded those boards, and said revision 1.4 was corrected and tested with Diag264. A reset is required after changing the 16 KB / 64 KB selection.

For this system (exact model): The current NC92 SD2IEC LCD manual explicitly lists the C116. Its unit uses the IEC serial bus and external 5 V power; confirm that the selected hardware variant includes the correct serial cable and safe power adapter.

Retro Lemon listed its user-port-powered C64, C128, VIC-20, and SX-64 variant in stock at GBP 34.17 on 2026-07-27, and Sordan exposed a current Buy now path for its combined SD2IEC and Tapecart variant. PolyPlay's plain external Sordan Micro device and Retro Electronics' internal board were out of stock, while the RetroFletch backplane seller was on a break. A complete open C64 SD2IEC LP hardware build is also available. Variant power, connectors, controls, and firmware configuration differ. The official firmware site says 0.x firmware is obsolete and warns that newer-dated bootloaders are not necessarily safer or better.

Individual Computers' main product index, last modified in May 2026, lists SuperPLA V4 as a spare part while placing the older SuperPLA and V3 under Sold out. The current shop root also exposes a Super PLA V4 product image, but Tavily did not expose an exact product-specific cart or stock control on 2026-07-30. Confirm current orderability before buying. The underside jumpers and adapter pins are very small; use the official mode diagram, tweezers, bright light, and careful handling.

The repository provides Gerbers, firmware, hardware instructions, and release files sufficient for a DIY build. The maker invites requests for a completed unit but does not advertise standing stock. Disk images are read-only, and the device does not reproduce a 1551 exactly. When a TCBM cable is fitted, both specified ground pins must be connected as documented.

The official C64, A500, and 800XL Tindie pages were out of stock on 2026-07-30, although the project marks those models active and supported. CBMretro had equivalent cased C64/C128 and A500/A1200 hardware available at EUR 41.90; the original designer does not support third-party builds. Open hardware, firmware, and documentation remain available. The guide's original Unijoysticle tile is folded here as the retired WiFi predecessor: it needed a separately powered ESP8266 receiver and phone or desktop client, unlike the Bluetooth successor.
