Published 1985 Apple II coprocessor prototype with a 68020, optional 68881, 32K SRAM, and boot EPROM.

Treat this as a historical experimental build, not a safe drop-in design. The creators used custom wire-wrapped and insulation-displacement construction rather than a published PCB. Later design notes estimate roughly 1 A typical and as much as 1.5 A from +5 V even though the Apple II specifies 500 mA shared by all peripheral cards, and they identify excessive data-bus loading. A faithful build needs its own engineering review and likely a redesigned power and bus interface.

CBMretro exposed an in-stock add-to-cart path on 2026-07-30. The page says only that the board is for later C64 models and does not name assembly numbers or the C128. Confirm that the computer actually uses a socketed MOS 8701 and verify orientation before ordering or installation.

The software is CC BY-NC-ND 4.0: unmodified personal distribution with attribution is allowed, but modification and commercial resale are prohibited. The maker warns that some third-party marketplace copies were unauthorized or modified. Loopback hardware may be resold when the attribution conditions are met.

Protovision listed the PAL LumaTOLB at 25 EUR but temporarily unavailable with unknown delivery time on 2026-07-30. The current listing gives a three-year warranty and says the original timing chip need not be removed. Installation may require replacing the VIC-II heat shield with a larger one. A hands-on 2018 report says LumaTOLB does not work with C64 Reloaded MK2, although the separate original LumaFix does. No current NTSC order path was verified.

This is an advanced noncommercial board-build project, not an assembled product. The recreated PALs need suitable 16V8 or 20V8 devices. Low-power ATF16V8B parts do not work, and ATF16V8C parts may be problematic.

The current project page provides build files, component links, PCB ordering routes, and a video guide under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. This is not a plug-and-play board: installation removes the RF shielding, desolders motherboard parts and jumpers, adds pins, and requires both a 6567 and 6569 VIC-II. The connected display must accept both PAL and NTSC or one switch position may produce monochrome video or no usable picture. The authors provide no warranty or installation support.
