AvailableChecked Jul 30, 202664 Doctorby Trilogic / Shareware Plus; sold by Protovision

Tests major Commodore 64 chips, ROMs, interrupts, controls, and external ports with a cartridge and loopback plugs.

Protovision announced that 64 Doctor was back in stock on 2026-07-21. The product page listed eight units at EUR 35 with a one- to two-week shipping estimate on 2026-07-30. A detailed 2019 review identifies Tim Harris of Shareware Plus as the licensed manufacturer and demonstrates the test sequence, but it does not establish equivalent sound-test behavior for an 8580 or replacement SID, the SX-64, or a C128 in C64 mode.

AvailableChecked Jul 27, 2026Commodore 64 Ultimateby Commodore

Recreates a C64 as a complete FPGA-based keyboard computer with original peripheral interfaces plus HDMI, USB, microSD, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi.

On 2026-07-27, the breadbin BASIC Beige model exposed a Buy Now path and regional stock, while the slimline Commodore 64C Ultimate was a paid preorder scheduled for factory dispatch on September 15, 2026. The internal microSD card is sold separately. The externally accessible user port requires a separate adapter. Commodore warns that Ultimate64 and C64 Ultimate hardware and firmware are diverging; unsupported firmware can leave a machine nonfunctional and resulting damage is outside free support, warranty service, and replacement.

AvailableChecked Jul 28, 2026MSSIAH Cartridgeby MSSIAH

Combines an integrated MIDI interface with five cartridge-resident SID music applications for sequencing, synthesis, drums, and low-fidelity sample playback.

The official contact page reported MSSIAH in stock on 2026-07-28, and its online order workflow was live. The cartridge and software are one integrated product: its MIDI hardware cannot be used by other applications, no MIDI OUT is provided, and the ROMs are not sold separately. A monitor is effectively required, and saving needs a compatible drive or separate Savyour.

Find usedChecked Jul 28, 2026Original MOS 6581 and 8580 SID Chipsby MOS Technology / Commodore

Period original SID chips restore authentic 6581 or 8580 sound when matched to the computer's motherboard voltage and filter circuit.

AMI64 offered soak-tested original 6581 and 8580R5 chips from GBP 97 on 2026-07-28. These are finite period parts even when a dealer has stock. Confirm authenticity, revision, test history, socket condition, motherboard voltage, filter components, and return terms. Installing a 9 V 8580 in a 12 V 6581 board can destroy it.

AvailableChecked Jul 28, 2026SwinSID Nanoby Swinkels / Lotharek

Current Lotharek redesign of the compact AVR-based replacement for a Commodore 64 SID sound chip.

The Lotharek page exposed a login-or-register-to-buy path on 2026-07-27. The independent nano SwinSIDb tutorial documents the reference design's settings: its J1 selects 6581 filtering when closed and 8580 when open, while J2 enables an output-load resistor for 8580 boards and is left open for 6581 boards. It also says the design lacks paddle analog inputs and external audio input. The seller does not state that its dual DIP switch maps identically, so obtain Lotharek-specific switch and orientation instructions before installation. The latest firmware identified by the tutorial is dated 2012; original development stalled, and the reconstructed archive warns that one unreleased firmware can glitch.

Find usedChecked Jul 28, 2026SwinSID Ultimateby CodeKiller / Hermit

Period enhanced SwinSID replacement adds configurable 6581- and 8580-style sound, readable oscillator and envelope registers, analog input, and paddle or mouse support.

Production ended in 2018 and no current maker or build path was verified. Buy used only with the original manual and configuration software. The documented 6581-board installation recommends disconnecting the 1K output pull-down, while EXT IN needs the specified termination. This is unrelated to current Commodore 64 Ultimate hardware despite the old product name.

Build itChecked Jul 27, 2026Ulti-PETby Andre Fachat

Builds an integrated modern PET-compatible computer with selectable PET models, accelerated operation, enhanced color video, storage, audio, and current input.

No current assembled seller was verified. Revision 1.3A has public GPL-3.0 hardware files, but a build requires fine-pitch surface-mount assembly, separate FPGA and ROM projects, and programmed devices. The family documentation warns that boards, bills of materials, and firmware are moving to newer video timing and says to contact the maker before building.

Sold outChecked Jul 30, 2026Ultimate 64 Mainboardby 1541 Ultimate

Replaces a Commodore 64 motherboard with an FPGA-based board offering modern video, storage, networking, and emulated peripheral functions.

The official store still listed the Ultimate64 Elite-II out of stock on 2026-07-27. Its home page says the black short-board run is sold out and Commodore has taken over sales of its version of the board. Check both current vendors rather than assuming another 1541 Ultimate batch.
