Juicy Crumb showed the complete $949 SE/30 Greyscale Kit out of stock on 2026-07-27, and the developer page exposed no separate public order path for current external-only cards. The nonstandard 1024 by 768 at 54 Hz mode will not sync on every display. Extra PDS cards can cause instability, and the maker warns that adapting VGA output to a vintage Apple CRT may damage the monitor.

Converts Apple II, II Plus, Europlus, and IIe video for display on a VGA monitor.

The scaler is currently listed as out of stock. Because Apple II revisions differ, installation may require jumper settings and additional jumper wires; use the linked manual for the exact machine.

Converts the Apple IIc family's digital video expansion output to 720x480 VGA.

The vendor page listed A2VGA as out of stock on 2026-07-24. Its 720x480 output may not work with some older VGA monitors. Earlier hardware was NTSC-only, so confirm the revision when buying used. Do not connect it to an Apple IIgs or Macintosh merely because those machines also have 15-pin video ports; the manual warns that doing so risks damage.

The adapter was in stock and backorderable on 2026-07-24. Most ordinary VGA monitors do not accept 15 kHz video; verify the exact display before ordering.

JCM showed 36 assembled A2 VidGA cards in stock on 2026-07-24, with firmware choices for Apple II and II Plus or Apple IIe. RetroFletch's A2 Analog seller was taking a break on 2026-07-27; its published board has a critical VGA IDC footprint error, so the cable's red wire must face the motherboard. A2 Analog can also conflict with some accelerators, card autodetection, CFFA3000, and ROMX configurations. Infinity Products' SMC A][ VGA Mini was out of stock, and Laser's assembled Mark Aikens variant showed zero stock. Choose the exact hardware and firmware branch rather than treating every variant as interchangeable.

Adds adjustable CRT-style dark lines to a compatible progressive VGA signal before it reaches a modern display.

The ArcadeForge maker page remains online but exposed no clear current price or Add to Cart control on 2026-07-30. Arcade Express marked its unit out of stock, while Jammastar displayed both a last-items warning and a notify-when-available control. Confirm stock before ordering. The maker designs the device around 640 x 480 VGA. A stock C64, C128, or other 15 kHz computer cannot connect directly; it first needs a suitable scaler that produces a supported progressive VGA signal.

Provides MDA and CGA-compatible display modes with 31 kHz VGA output for modern monitors and capture devices.

This is a self-assembly project. The maker advises checking for shorts between each power rail and ground before installation; the oscillator configuration also affects CGA composite color accuracy.

The product exposed a login-or-register-to-buy path on 2026-07-27. Update its initial firmware before installation. A socketed GTIA may still require careful removal of the adapter's bottom socket for height; a soldered GTIA must be desoldered. The May 2026 hardware manual is explicitly a draft. The product page publishes a complete VGA pinout but leaves the 15 kHz connection diagram unfinished, so do not improvise a SCART or RGB-monitor cable from that page. SECAM computers use an incompatible FGTIA pinout and are not supported.

Convert the unusual HDI-45 video port on first-generation Power Macintosh systems to Macintosh DA-15 or VGA-style HD-15 output.

JCM showed five DA-15 adapters and seven HD-15 adapters in stock on 2026-07-24. The open designs remain buildable under a CC BY-NC 4.0 license. The HDI-45 pins are unusually thin and flexible, and the project strongly recommends its printed case for pin alignment and stability.

Standalone boards require separate 5 V USB power and host wiring. The power-integrated products are for a removed logic board or custom chassis, not a drop-in external-video port for an intact computer.

Human review found no package clarification, so confirm the connector, power requirement, and included USB items with the seller. A DVI-to-HDMI cable and source-system cables are sold separately. Medusa line-doubles when needed but does not change vertical refresh rate, so the destination display must accept the resulting 50 or 60 Hz signal and may blank briefly when the source changes resolution. Install only firmware matching the hardware revision.

Revision 3.0A has public GPL-3.0 hardware files, but it is an advanced build with fine-pitch surface-mount parts, separately programmed FPGA and boot firmware, and dependencies across several repositories. Runs a purpose-built Macintosh 128K emulator on a Raspberry Pi Pico with monochrome VGA and USB keyboard and mouse input.

Juicy Crumb exposed an Add to cart path for the assembled v2 carrier and an optional in-stock Raspberry Pi Pico on 2026-07-27. Check whether the selected package includes the Pico. A working setup also needs 5 V power, a VGA display or converter, USB OTG cable, mouse, and usually a keyboard or hub. The default flash-backed disk is read-only; writable storage requires a separately built SPI SD-card path. Building firmware from source requires a legally obtained compatible Macintosh ROM and disk image. The community UF2 creator was temporarily offline during this check.

Converts composite or S-Video from a C64 or C128 to selectable-resolution analog VGA output.

The exact Portta scaler was documented in a 2016 hands-on review, but no current maker product page or stable new-stock source was verified in 2026. The unit includes a short USB-A power cable but no power supply or computer-specific video cable. Results varied by computer: the reviewed flat C128 looked excellent over S-Video, a C64C showed vertical banding and a rainbow border, and a C128DCR produced poor S-Video but good composite output.

Converts Sophia or VBXE RGB video to VGA inside a 1088XLD.

The project publishes schematics, Gerbers, source, and PIC12F1572 firmware, but requires a separate GBS-8200 board and mechanical installation. Firmware 1.2 is beta, high-resolution modes are untested, and its rudimentary presets do not work with every monitor. The maker notes that Sophia2 is generally the better universal VGA and DVI solution.

The optional SD backpack is only for the earlier Pi Pico VGA Terminal. It requires PicoTerm 1.6.0 or later, can be ordered with its surface-mount socket preinstalled, and does not include the Pi Pico itself.

Use PCB version 1.1 for an original IBM PC or XT; version 1.0 needs the documented ALE rework. On version 1.1, the C17 silkscreen incorrectly says 1 uF instead of 1 nF. The project also documents a color-monitor detection workaround for newer DDC displays.

JCM showed 46 Hardware Version 1 adapters in stock on 2026-07-24. Connect or disconnect only while the Portable is off. Never use a VGA extender cable between the adapter and computer; it can short and damage the Portable. Keep conductive objects away from the exposed connector pin carrying battery voltage.
